Don't Waste Your Money on Self Defense Classes for Seniors and Just Buy Pepper Spray

Wrestling, boxing, jiu-jitsu, karate, free-style wrestling, greco roman wrestling, muay thai, judo, tae kwon do and training and knowledge in every other style of corporal combat are extraordinary assets to have should you find yourself in a corporal altercation. Any way these skills take a vital whole of time and endeavor to hone and as such they are not as practical a means of self-defense as some of your other options. This is especially true for senior citizens who may not have the time, power and corporal potential to come to be as proficient in the martial arts as their younger counterparts. I find that a much more practical and effective means of self-defense, especially for seniors, is pepper spray. One does not need to possess above average, strength, speed, agility or skill to use pepper spray and it can be every bit as effective, and in most cases more effective, than a black belt in many of the martial arts.

Much like a roundhouse kick to the face, muay thai knee to the ribs or a jiu-jitsu style armbar, a shot of pepper spray causes an heavy whole of pain for any attacker. And unlike a roundhouse kick to the face, muay thai knee to the ribs or a jiu-jitsu style arm bar, a shot of pepper spray is far less likely to cause any long term effects, trips to the accident room, permanent scars or pre-mature death because pepper spray works by causing heavy but temporary pain. an additional one benefit that a defensive spray has over corporal combat self-defense is the fact that one needn't easily touch an attacker. This is immeasurably useful to many seniors as the median 75 year old woman is not finding to throw down with the median 25 year old low-life thug. In expanding to causing an attacker pain, pepper spray swells the mucous membranes, which makes breathing difficult, and swells the veins in the eyes, causing the eyes to close. These effects can last up to 45 minutes but again cause no permanent damage.

THAI BOXING

So before you go spend hard earned money trying to perfect one of the many martial arts please reconsider spending a fraction of what you would probably spend on just one of those classes and invest in a small handheld canister of pepper spray. They are not only extremely affordable but entirely concealable and easy to carry. My own mom (who is a senior population thank you) carries her pepper spray on her key ring. My mom may not know Krav Maga or Sambo but she does know how to point and spray and that can be as effective as any martial arts.

The Benefits of Cardio Kickboxing

The line between martial arts and expert cardio workout routines is kind of blurry; the difference between studying how to do a high kick and studying how to do a knee pull to an aerobic practice tape isn't that wide. That said, there are a lot of reasons to take up martial arts, fluctuating from self belief construction to normal practice and working on balance. One kind of practice program that's sweeping the gym set is the cardio kickboxing workout.

The primary cardio kickboxing program was called Tae Bo, and popularized by martial artist Billy Blanks. Tae Bo combines aerobic dance routines with short, sharp punches and kicks pulled from tae kwon do and boxing to generate a high energy, high execution workout. Tae Bo itself has been trademarked, so the generic term 'cardio kickboxing' has been used instead for similar workouts and similar styles of exercise.

THAI BOXING

The line between martial arts and expert cardio workout routines is kind of blurry; the difference between studying how to do a high kick and studying how to do a knee pull to an aerobic practice tape isn't that wide. That said, there are a lot of reasons to take up martial arts, fluctuating from self belief construction to normal practice and working on balance. One kind of practice program that's sweeping the gym set is the cardio kickboxing workout.

The Benefits of Cardio Kickboxing

What's prominent to understand about cardio kickboxing as an practice program is that it's got elements of a martial art, but it is not sufficient self defense training on its own. It doesn't teach good blocking form, it doesn't teach throws or ground movements, or anything you might actually need for self defense, other than how to throw a punch or kick. People who learn cardio kickboxing routines have a head start in studying how to take up muay thai or tae kwon do, because a lot of the motions are very similar, and they'll have the fitness benefits to build on as a foundation.

Cardio kickboxing has some critical fitness benefits. It's a very high intensity aerobic workout; your heart will be beating fast, you will be sweating and you will be burning fat while doing it. It's also a lot more fun - and enjoyable - than most aerobic routines, and if you've spent too much time on a stair climber or a treadmill, you know exactly how much fun matters in holding you at your workout routine.

Cardio kickboxing emphasizes balance and mobility; you may start out feeling like a klutz doing cardio kickboxing, because the motions feel strange, but you will rapidly improve your balance and coordination while doing it. It's also a great way to build on flexibility, because it requires that your body move in ways that are enthralling to it. A typical workout of one hour is good for about 500 fat burned off in a session, about twice what a step aerobics class will do.

One thing you should be aware of is that kickboxing is not low impact in any way, shape or form. If you've got back stiffness or bad knees, this is not the right workout for you. It's also not the right workout for a couch potato; get into step aerobics first, while maintaining a targeted heart rate, then get into cardio kickboxing. Muscle strains and sprains are fairly tasteless at first.

Cardio kickboxing is also a great 'alternate day' program to do when doing weight training; it's a great unabridged body workout that helps reinforce the muscle construction you're doing, while maintaining flexibility and construction up an aerobic wind.

Kickboxing Combinations Applied to Cardio Kickboxing

This is the second in a series on martial arts stunning combinations used as choreography in cardio kickboxing. As said, a key discrepancy between a trained martial artist and a streetfighter is that the martial artist reflexively hits in sequences of three or four moves. The instinctive non-thinking reaction isn't just a one-move event, its a more sufficient practiced sequence of strikes. One punch or kick is easy to defend against, but three or four thrown in a row can be very difficult to deal with.

This reflexive reaction of hitting in sequences is only learned through lots of repetition and drills, performing sequences over and over until it is an self-operating reflex. Cardio kickboxing is an ideal way to do this. In fact many of the patterns in cardio kickboxing are drawn from such drills.

THAI BOXING

Useful for cardio kickboxing choreography, here are some real-world combinations culled from the martial art sport loosely called Kickboxing. What came to be known as competitive kickboxing is a constrained theory tasteless to a estimate of martial arts. The traditional brand of "Kickboxing" was developed in Japan in 1950 by boxing promoter Osamu Noguchi as a style/ruleset for beating Muay Thai fighters. In excellent competitive Kickboxing opponents are allowed to strike with both the fists and the feet, hitting above the hip. However, unlike Muay Thai, using elbows or knees was forbidden and the use of shins was also often not allowed.

Kickboxing Combinations Applied to Cardio Kickboxing

Kicks are generally more powerful than punches and so are a principal tool. But in convention it is a good idea to set up a leg kick with handwork first. A jab or two will make your opponent think about your hands...then you step and kick. Or jab/cross/right kick, with the cross whether being more of a fake and push (which allows you to kick de facto hard) or a hard right that sets up a right kick It's more difficult to kick hard with this combo, but if you drill the guy with a good cross he'll be knocked back a bit and then you step in...

Here are the combinations:

Jab, cross, lead hook, cover

Jab, cross, lead hook, lead front kick

Jab, cross, rear leg front roundhouse kick, cover

Introduce the sequences half-time, then depending on the students, double it up. For the last sequence above make sure to tell the students to bring their rear foot back to the rear-foot beginning position after the roundhouse kick (instead of alongside the other). In convention the cover happens simultaneously with bringing the foot back.

Of policy for every rule (punch before kick) there is an exception. This sequence works particularly well on the bags.

Lead leg side kick, feet together, rear leg step back

Lead leg side kick, feet together, cross with rear leg step back

These combinations can be repeated individually or in sequences whether on the floor or with a heavy bag. Devote equal time to right and left leg transmit positions. Most are oriented nearby flat rotation nearby the spine, swinging the body so that each punch or kick winds up for the next. After you get the progressions down, start inter-mixing the combinations together in distinct patterns to gift something distinct every class.

How Muay Thai Kickboxing Workouts Changed My Body

I've been taking muay thai kickboxing for about 3 months
now, twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. It has been
an wonderful experience. The thai kickboxing workouts are
intense, make no mistake about it. Even though I am in
a beginners class, the sweat pours like a hot summer rain!

We start each kickboxing workout by lining up in the gym
facing our Kru, or teacher. He bows to us, we bow to him,
and he welcomes us with a few words. We then start with
skipping rope.

THAI BOXING

As crazy as this may sound, I found jumping rope to be
incredibly challenging. I started with 25 extra pounds
around my waist, and possibly my co-ordination was a little
off. The rope is covered in hard plastic, plus I'm barefoot
and the rope would smack my toes and it actually stings!

How Muay Thai Kickboxing Workouts Changed My Body

I would watch the more experienced students jump rope and
see if I could keep up. Sometimes I could go 15-20 jumps
in a row before I would hit my toes or head with the rope.
But after a month I got the hang of it. We jump rope in
the thai kickboxing workouts until we start to sweat, maybe
4 to 6 minutes.

Then comes the tortuous part, the cardio conditioning.
Every kickboxing class has a different routine. Sometimes
we do burpees, sometimes hillclimbers, always lots of
squats, jumping squats, pushups and the like. For the old
timers it's like a real intense session of calesthetics.

We ordinarily train technique for 20 to 25 minutes. And
like the cardio, kickboxing technique training varies from
class to class. Sometimes you work your kicks onto the pads
that your partners hold. Sometimes its punching
combinations. We work routines like front kick, 3 punch
combo then right thai kick. It always is different. I
really enjoy the variety, it keeps the training from ever
getting stale.

But we always cease with pain...abdominal pain. You lie
on the floor on your back, and raise your legs up off the
ground until they are level up in the air. Your partner
stands at your head, approximately with his or her feet near your
shoulders, facing your feet. Your partner pushes on your
feet, forcing your legs back down to the floor. You raise
your legs back level up, the partner pushes them back
down...this goes on for 3 level minutes. Your abs are
burning after 1, screaming after 2, and ordinarily are
nearing failure before the session ends. Then you get to
switch and torture your partner!

I actually conception I saw an abdominal muscle on my body
the other day in the mirror. It's impossible, I still have
at least 10 pounds of blubber to lose, but I feel fantastic!
My vigor levels are off the charts, I'm sleeping so much
better at night and I love it. I extremely recommend
muay thai kickboxing workouts for whatever serious about
getting into top shape!

The State of the Martial Arts business - Mixed Martial Arts Goes Big Time

Many pundits say that the Lessner-Couture fight marked the starting of a new era of Mixed Martial Arts. I happen to agree. Mma journalist, Joe Rizzo of the internet talk show "The Rear Naked Choke" expressed this sentiment in a recent pod cast and I couldn't agree more. I'll go one step added and Predict the next evolution of the sport of Mma and the Martial Arts industry.

Mixed martial arts will go the way of boxing and take its place among at the top of the of American combat sports. It's faster and it has an edge that meets the demands of our grow-up-to-soon, over-exposed youth. The sport of mixed martial arts will continue to grow, regulated and controlled to meet the protection standards of each state. I would Not be surprised to see Mma become an Olympic sport in the next 16 years.

THAI BOXING

Mma will take the path of all expert sports. If we look at the boxing model, fighters come out of small local gyms, fight in small venues as they work their way up the food chain. They get picked up by promoters and handled by managers and trainers.

The State of the Martial Arts business - Mixed Martial Arts Goes Big Time

For Mma it will be even harder to break in. The Cinderella, rags to riches story of a kid learning Mma at his local boys club is highly unlikely to happen. The hereafter of Mma will come from Amateur and Collegiate wrestling. It has already happened. The vast majority of champions have a wrestling back ground. Good stunning skills only take a few years to make and submissions even less than that (you can build up a decent submission Defense in about a year.)

Wrestling in the Us has a enormous infrastructure and talent pool to choose from. On the elite college level, wrestlers already have the work ethic, the attitude, body awareness and of procedure excellent grappling and scrambling skills. As the payday for Mma increases, it becomes a viable option for elite college wrestlers to pursue. The only other options were go to the Olympics or go to work.

I only hope the athletes get their due, which is going to happen since most of them are college graduates, they have more Options than a starving kid form the street. The path of the Mma fighter will be wrestle and maybe do some Judo or Bjj as a youth. When he's out of college or high school, he should learn to strike: boxing and muay thai. He will lead a Spartan lifestyle and seek out higher levels of competition in order to improve. This doesn't happen at the local studio, it can't.

What will continue to happen is college wrestlers will be recruited More by Mma promoters. I even for see an Mma draft. Athletes will be recruited and settled in in training camps. They will be developed, just like any other pro athlete.

The day of the small local Mma club is gone. The idea of having Mma at the local martial arts school will be the same as teaching cardio kick boxing or aerobics (it's almost there now- most guys just don't know it yet.) There will all the time be the exception, but on the whole, there in no way that person who starts training at their local club will be able to compete with a collegiate elite wrestler; No Way, No How. Mma will be the enterprise it inspires to be: Major sports entertainment.

So where does that leave the state of martial arts? Martial arts will all the time have it's niche, cult following. It's the nature of the beast, but that Only attracts a small ration of citizen who are finding for that lifestyle. The vast majority of adult practitioners look to martial arts for self defense training. Adult martial arts will be another tool to help them live their lives better. Programs must focus on fitness and self defense to survive. In the next 5 years, if you're not in the self defense and fitness enterprise and you continue to offer Only martial arts programs, you're going to be stuck and forgotten.

The mixed martial arts and grappling era on the local level will be soon over. Unless you are teaching wrestling, judo or Bjj you will not be able to compete. Contribution Mma in the near hereafter will be like Contribution expert football or basketball classes.

While most citizen enjoy watching football, they aren't about to go play professionally. But they still have an interest in linked activities. As Mma grows, they will have an interest but no desire to jump in the ring- even if they tried, there won't be much opportunity. But there is all the time a need for self defense skills. Today's trainee just wants the facts, the skills and go about there lives. If you're teaching in a customary style dojo, you better incorporate self defense training into your schedule or you can say good bye to your adult program.

Adults are concerned in martial arts will want to do only two things: Learn self defense and get in shape. Will you be there for the turn?

The Marble Temple In Bangkok

The Marble Temple is located close to Dusit Palace. The name Marble Temple is used more by foreigners visiting the temple than the locals. In Thailand, the temple is known as Wat Benchamabophit.

This temple is not promoted as a traveler destination so the amount of foreigners visiting it is quite miniscule.

THAI BOXING

The wat was founded while the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) on March 1, 1900. The Ubosoth in the temple was constructed using Carrara marble from Italy. Wat Bechamabophit simply means : the temple of the Fifth King.

The Marble Temple In Bangkok

The main structure at Wat Benchamabophit is the Ubosoth Hall. It is one of the finest works of architectural art. The Ubosoth has four gables and the east gable is the main entry to the Ubosoth.

The cloister is located towards the rear of the Ubosoth. In the cloister there are 52 Buddha images. Some of the images are former while others are copies of important Buddha images.

Inside the Ubosoth, the main Buddha image is enshrined. This image is a replica of Phra Buddha Chinnarat at Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok province. The image is in bronze and it has an unusual blue lighting colse to it. Just beneath Buddha's throne, the ashes of King Rama V are interred.

There are many other structures associated straight through pleasant walkways in the Wat Benchamabophit compound. These comprise the Abbot's residence, Song Dharm Hall, used for laying in state the members of the Royal family and high dignitaries, and the Bell Tower. A visit to the monks quarters is also worthwhile and one will see that the quarters are highly colorful and well maintained.

Punching Bags - How to Hang 'Em

So, you have ultimately bought a punching bag and now are excited to get going on some home workouts. Hanging the bag is the next step. But, in your mind you are a little hesitant to hang such a heavy object, thinking that after you do so it will be ripped out of the ceiling as a effect of its weight and bulk.

So, what is the proper way to hang a punching bag? Is there a way to ensure that the bag will not damage the ceiling? Yes, there is.

THAI BOXING

For a bag up to 125 lbs. Any former chain and swivel assembly will be strong enough to hold the punching bag without causing any kind of structural damage. These assemblies are pretty right forward. All you have to do is drill a hole into the ceiling where you are attaching the bag. Then, insert the eye bolt (these come with the bag) into the drilled hole. Next, you attach the chain and swivel to the eye bolt and connect the bag to the chain. Pretty simple. Now, you are ready to take out that pent up vigor on the bag.

Punching Bags - How to Hang 'Em

However, if you have a punching bag that weighs more than 125 lbs., hanging it with a former chain and swivel assembly may get you into some trouble. Simply put, most former chain and swivel assembly sets are not strong enough to hold such a heavy bag and will ultimately come loose and fall from the ceiling. For these kinds of bags, you need to get another type of ceiling mount so as to avoid any damage.

The goods you will need is called a heavy bag ceiling mount. All of boxing's premier suppliers sell them, along with Everlast Boxing and Balazs Boxing. Instead of drilling just one eye bolt into the ceiling, heavy bag ceiling mounts consist of steel platforms into which 4 bolts are drilled into the ceiling. The eye bolt is then attached to the steel platform, transferring the weight and pressure from the eye bolt to the steel buildings which can hold a lot more weight. This ensures that your heavy bag is accumulate enough to withstand the movment and pressure it is going to perceive during workouts

To sum up, if you are seeing to get a punching bag, don't think that you can just hang any bag with any kind of ceiling mounting system. If you ahve a heavy bag it is worth it to shell out a few extra bucks to avoid doing permanent damage to your house or gym.

Mixed Martial Arts and Its increase

Mixed martial arts as a sport has been getting a lot of attentiveness lately and it is for real one of the fastest growing sports in the States right now. I see new mixed martial arts gyms popping up all over the place and there are constantly new talent entering the scene. What I for real enjoy about this awesome sport is that it is like the old gladiator traditions where population from all kinds of dissimilar backgrounds and cultures would meet and only the best would be left standing. Back in the Roman times however a loss would equal death, whereas now you can just get back to the drawing board and improve your weaknesses.

Mixed martial arts has grown a lot in the last join of years and the added regulation has been for real good for the sport. In the beginning it was a wee too violent for myself and other people's taste, but this was dealt with by setting up rules that would properly safe the fighters. They have for real done studies that show that Mma is historically safer than boxing, however we have to take into observation that boxing has also been active for a lot longer time than Mma.

THAI BOXING

What is for real great is that we get to see dissimilar styles collide inside the ring and what speedily became evident is that you need to have some kind of ground game when it comes to organized fighting. These days wrestlers pretty much dominate most matches as they have the choice of either they want to keep the fight standing or take their opponent down to the ground. However, this sport is still very young and therefore constantly evolving and we are just now beginning to see fighters that have for real trained to be mixed martial artists and are not just population that came from dissimilar backgrounds and then changed their game to Mma.

Mixed Martial Arts and Its increase

If you have been following the former styles of combat for a while it is sort of an eye opener to watch these matches and you realize what for real works in sports combat and what doesn't. Obviously there is a lot of divergence between sports combat and self defense and therefore you should keep the two separate. If you want to check out some cool matches you should take a closer look at Ufc as they are the number one organization in this style.

If you are reasonably fit and willing to give it a try, Cardio Kickboxing could be your road to a healthier, fitter life.

THAI BOXING

Let me share what I have learned about cardio kickboxing with you. One basic move is the base move (shifting weight from the ball of one foot to the other). This is good for balance. Another is the bob and weave. The mixture move involves a series of quick punches thrown in combination. The front kick involves lifting your foot straight out in front of you with toes up. In the roundhouse kick, the legs are swung around until the shoelaces hit the side of the target in front.

Let's eye some more moves. The side kick is one in which the foot is lifted up in front of you and then kicked out at the side. If you like to punch, the hook, the jab and the uppercut are for you. My personal favorite is the jab, which involves a quick forward movement of the fist.

As a beginner, I was told to keep a few things in mind. In my first class I was taught not to practice myself beyond fatigue. "Do not lock joints or hold dumbbells when punching," My instructor told me. "Overextending kicks is always a bad idea," I was told.

I realized early on that Cardio Kickboxing is no substitute for a martial arts class. It is meant to be a form or exercise. The advantage is that it is not as violent as a martial arts class and is good exercise. citizen with medical problems like joint/knee issues should institution kickboxing with caution.

In performing cardio kickboxing techniques I suggest finding for a straightforward program. Start by working out once a week. Alternate between high intensity and low intensity workouts. Warm up and cool down with the main session of exercise. Complement cardio kickboxing with other forms of exercise.

Wear permissible practice gear - practice shorts and t-shirts or tank tops. A sports bra is good for women in training. Drink plenty of water and use a mat and perhaps a sports band around your forehead. Cardio kickboxing techniques have been a godsend to my practice routine. Here's wishing you the best as you kickbox your way to good health.

Savate is a form of French martial arts also known as French foot fighting, French kickboxing and French boxing which involves using both the hands and feet as weapons. Savate works through a composition of western boxing elements and graceful kicking techniques. Beginners can now learn the basic ideas of Savate through martial arts video training.

When competitive in Savate, you are only allowed 4 types of kicks and 4 types of punches. The kicks consist of of the whip, chasse, reverse and low kick. The whip involves a roundhouse kick which makes palpate with the instep, and it may be low, medium or high.

THAI BOXING

The chasse is the side or front piston-action kick which may be low, medium or high. The reverse is a hooking kick which makes palpate with the sole of your shoe and may be low, medium or high. The low kick is a front or sweep kick to the shin which makes palpate with the inner edge of the shoe and is performed with a characteristic lean backwards. The punches consist of the jab or lead hand, the cross or rear hand, the hook or bent arm and the uppercut which involves the use of either hand.

How to Learn Savate With Martial Arts Video Training

Mixed martial arts training videos highlight the 3 levels of competition in modern Savate, which are: assault, pre-combat and combat. In assault, you will be required to focus on your technique while still making palpate with your opponent; excessive force is however not permitted. The pre-combat level will allow you to engage in full-strength fighting, so long as both you and your opponent are wearing protective gear such as helmets and shin guards. The final and most oppressive level is combat which is similar to pre-combat, although no protective gear, with the exception of mouth guard and groin security is permitted.

Unlike other martial art forms which offer belt colors as their ranking systems, in Savate you will be training for glove colors. However, as a beginner, you will not have any color. You may thereafter train to rise to the successive levels: blue, green, red, white and yellow. You must be a yellow glove rank and above if you want to compete. The highest ranking savateur (for males) or savateuse (for females) is a silver glove.

Footwork Drills in Boxing - Roadwork Training

Footwork drills in boxing and roadwork training are an primary part of conditioning. Although every fighter that is complicated in a "stand-up" fighting sport understands the value of having strong legs and a basic fitness foundation through running, many of the newer competitors are not quite sure what type of running to do. Below are a few drills that will encourage positive amelioration of footwork that will transfer directly to the ring.

1. Forward stepping: While running, slow down into your stance. If you are right handed the left foot should be forward, right foot to the rear. Naturally maintain your stance while piquant Forward for a length determined by you. Make sure that in all motions the front foot moves first followed by the back foot. Depending on the style of fighter you are, you will want to maintain good foot position while keeping hands up in tight guard.

THAI BOXING

2. Backward Stepping: While running begin in Forward stepping position. Turn colse to into stance and begin "backward stepping". The back foot will lead the motion followed by the front foot. Once you have one stance down while going backwards, mix up the footwork so that you are in opposite stance. If in original stance switch to "southpaw" / vice-versa. Once you are comfortable at going backwards with both stances...switch back and forth between both stances in a discrete rhythm.

Footwork Drills in Boxing - Roadwork Training

3. Side Stepping: Pretty much self explained! This is a basic side-stepping drill that you can transition to from any of the stances we will cover here. One major note to keep in mind is to maintain the same length between the feet at all times; meaning, the feet should not touch together or be too far apart. If your stance while standing still is about 18 inches wide between your feet, or shoulder width, then this length should be maintained throughout the movement.

4. Criss Crossing: This is a excellent footwork drill seen in many sports outside of combat-arts such as American football, soccer, track and field and of course boxing and Muay Thai to name a few. To preform this drill while piquant laterally (to the left in this description) Naturally cross the right-leg in in front of the right leg. Immediately step out to the left with the left foot, following the motion with the right foot, however, this time bringing it to the rear/behind the left foot. Repeat movements. A consolidate ways to achieve criss-crossing of the legs: 1: keep both hands high in tight-guard throughout the exercise. 2: allow hands to hang freely about waist level and allowing them to swing left/right while criss-crossing your feet.

5. Spinning: This is a excellent drill that is sure to institute balance, sense of direction as well the capability to re-establish yourself on the task at hand; the fight! To achieve the spinning-drill while running get into tight-guard, hand high. While maintaining your direction without zig-zagging too much Naturally spin 360 degrees in one direction a total of 8 times... Immediately reverse the motion spinning/turning the opposite direction - 360 degrees each "spin" - a total of 8 times in a row. At this point you should be pretty much dizzy. Immediately following spinning clockwise 8 times and counter-clockwise 8 times maintain the same direction you are running before starting the spins. At the conclusion of spinning both directions "puch-out" while running Forward for a determined distance. This practice simulates getting Blasted with a punch that throws of equilibrium and sense of direction, however, we will maintain our composer and attack in the direction of our simulated opponent. While spinning maintain tight guard and try to move Forward in a right motion without falling all over the place.

6. Backward Running: It is rumored that Muhammad Ali used to spend a fair whole of time running backwards while doing his daily roadwork training. Backwards running is great for many reasons. Since you cannot see where you are going, It builds awareness to the environment as well as awareness of foot-placement. The antagonist muscles (visit Google for description) are also well industrialized which encourages equilibrium of muscle drive and endurance throughout the legs. Running backwards is challenging, fun, and as far as applicable to the fight game, backwards running helps institute the capability to beyond doubt shift from a Forward motion to a back-peddling motion for evasion purposes or to suck your opponent in by changing to a Forward attack immediately after piquant back a few steps.

7. Circles Drills: This drill is straightforward and will help institute lateral / circular footwork. starting clockwise, side step in a circular-direction a total of ten times making a large circle. At the 10th step, immediately repeat the practice to the opposite direction (counter-clockwise) however this time stepping only 9 times. At the 9th step, side-step clockwise in circular motion 8 steps. At the 8th step, immediately reverse directions this time piquant a total of 7 steps. Continue all the way to 1 quick step left & right, then starting the movement 2 steps to the left and right, work your way up to 3, 4, 5, 6 steps and so on in each direction until you get back to ten. Of all the stepping / footwork drills for boxing this is probably the most common drill I have seen. Circle drills beyond doubt institute the capability to swiftly transition left to right and in either a lateral (side to side) or circular motion.

8. Mix it Up. achieve all of the noted footwork drills in discrete rhythm and fashion. Mix it up! keep the body guessing by changing directions and footwork. Have fun and try to not be predictable. For extra challenge, add sprints Forward and backwards between footwork drills.

The old Art of Kickboxing

Kickboxing, as it was known by the name of "Muay Thai"', originated as the national sport of Thai society, with competitions held as early as 1257-1377 Ad.

You might also say that Muaythai was the sport of kings in its early days. King Pha Chao Sua was so involved in the sport he used to disguise himself as a commoner to participate.

THAI BOXING

He was additional so supportive of the sport he ordered his army to be trained in the art, and interest swelled. In 1774, Nau Khanohm Tom, as a captured prisoner of war, fought his way in contest, defeating 10 of Burma's very best.

The old Art of Kickboxing

The Burmese king, King Mangra, himself so impressed, applauded his achievements, and granted Nau Khanohm Tom his freedom.

Certainly this may have given Mauythai great new attentiveness and status to survive in history over the next centuries.

In 1921, although the fighting style had not changed, new transformations were applied with the inclusion and standardization of the 20 Glove 20ft roped ring.

Gloves were introduced as acceptable in 1923 by order of the police of the interior ministry.

By the 1930s groin safety was introduced. International enthusiasm grew slowly; it was as late as 1995 when the first world Amateur Muay Thai Championships were held.

As a martial art, there is very wee equipment required of participants, although it has come a long way since the early days.

Kick boxers will use hand wraps, i.e. Pieces of cloth to wrap nearby their hand under gloves.

Today the gloves are much thicker for the safety of an opponent, but light gloves are also available for training against bags.

Shin guards, and groin protectors are also worn. Female boxers may select to wear a chest or torso protector, although some discussion about these claim they often do more hurt than give protection.

Certainly uniforms should be worn with pride.

Kickboxing is phenomenally popular today. It is potential to find an active kickboxing school near you. Classes may be offered at your local gymnasium, or police and citizens youth club, alongside all respected martial arts classes.

Certainly a grading ideas exists today as with other martial arts. Grading and competitions are held regularly.

The selection to train casually or to enter world class competitive events is yours alone to make.

effective Kicks for road Defense

An old saying in martial arts self-defense is that you should keep your punches up and your kicks down. That is, don't kick above the waist. Like most rules, this one has some exceptions.

For example, if you're flexible and quick, there's no fancy not to follow a blitz with a roundhouse to the head. In keeping with the above rule however, I'd say at least avoid foremost with a high kick.

THAI BOXING

If you want to follow the rule strictly, here are two great kicks for the street.

effective Kicks for road Defense

1) Muy Thai leg kick. You probably know what this is. It's basically a roundhouse striking with the top of the foot and/or lower shin, delivered to the thigh (inside or outside, usually outside). I knew a guy from Virginia Beach who used to fight full caress kick boxing. He said he once saw a guy in a match get leg kicked so hard the guy threw up. That's a hard kick.

Fighter's can toughen up for it, but there's only so much you can do. Just think of the follow on person who's not used to that sort of thing. another thing to advise it is that you're not causing serious injury, but you can demoralize the heck out of the other guy. Two or three good kicks and he may settle to call it a day and leave you alone.

2) This one's not very nice, and it will cause serious injury. Instep kick to the knee. It's low and fast. You don't need to have great flexibility and the risk of getting your leg grabbed is just about zero. It's a stomping kick so it has power enough to beyond doubt break someone's leg.

When I teach a self-defense seminar, this is the only kick I show them. If I'm doing a discussion at a corporation or large firm, most of the attendees aren't very athletic, and aren't dressed for a street fight, so this is an easy one for them to learn and practice. I have them begin by stomping on the floor so they get the motion, then I demonstrate the kick gradually on a volunteer. After that, I have them convention alone - not on a partner.

If you have a heavy bag, convention both these kicks full power and your body will know what to do when the time comes.

That's all for today.

Train like you mean it.

Heavy Bag Training - significance of Bagwork For the Pugilist

Heavy Bag training is underlying in Boxing and Muay Thai. Plain and Simple. A heavy-bag is a Must. Heavy Bagwork is a must. It must be done. Of all the training tools in a Pugilist's environment, the bag is one of the most important tools for training power, as well as for perfecting technique. Although there are many types of heavy bags on the market, a good old fashion, leather bag that will withstand punishment for years is best.

A permissible heavy bag should be just that: heavy! Although there is a time and a place for a soft bag such as for a beginner or when injured/deeply bruised, ordinarily speaking soft" bags should be avoided. A bag that is flimsy, that flies all over the place when punched/kicked/elbowed/kneed does not "fit the cut" for man training for career, training to enter the ring. The bag must have substance and should resist the impact of all techniques: meaning, the bag should push back the weapon that it is struck by right back into position. For example, when kicking a permissible heavy bag the leg should plainly ricochet back and away from the bag right into start position.

THAI BOXING

Although a bag should and must have tremendous resistance, it is important as with any type of training to use tasteless sense and work your way up the ladder. In regards to using a bag that pro's are working on, a guaranteed injury will corollary if you punch, kick, knee or elbow such a hard heavy bag without permissible conditioning. The way to properly condition is simple. Do your bagwork consistently and moderately introduce yourself to the harder bags in the gym as time passes. I have seen many population along with "myself" injure themselves trying to work on a bag that is plainly too hard.

Heavy Bag Training - significance of Bagwork For the Pugilist

Take your time. Before using any bag (even if prompted by a trainer) touch the bag with your hands to get a feel of it and an idea as to how hard it is and what exactly you are getting yourself into! I have had a mischievous trainer, Nok Giat Busaba, introduce me to the hardest bag in the gym on my first day in Thailand asking me to kick it! Yes, I was injured and unable to use that leg for my first two weeks training.

Always check a heavy bag before you go to town on it!

Another important part of using a heavy bag is the wrapping of the hands. Wrap your hands, always. Hand wraps are affordable and do the job they were intended for; protecting the hands. As with the heavy bag there are many kinds of hand wraps. I personally use long wraps (170") that will contribute adequate distance to cover high on my wrist as well as a thick covering of the knuckles. At the end it will be up to you what kind of hand wraps work best. Whichever the case, use them! Well, there you have it. Now that you know the point of the heavy bag don't feel punished when a instructor sets you alone on one for a duration of time. He is just trying to help you!
