Let's take the examine a step backward. You want to know how to find a good Mma gym to train at because of what? You like hanging nearby gyms seeing at guys with Gsp physiques? Just kidding there! But the gym is not the issue so much as the people you will end up training with.
It is the trainers and fighters and team that make a good Mma Gym. Before I get on to the matter of Mma training equipment, here are some of my suggestions as to what to look for in the people:
THAI BOXING
A good mix of training levels and abilities in the other fighters. Why? To get good at Mma you need to train with skilful people. Also, you want to pass on what you know to less skilled trainees as this helps them and you understand technique better. A gym with a good whole of active and competing fighters. You want to be surrounded by real fighters, not bodybuilders in Tapout T shirts. Coaches who are current or ex-fighters. They don't all have to be Mma. Boxing, Bjj, Muay Thai is great too. The more the merrier. Just so long as they know what it is easily like to compete.
What About Mma Training Equipment?
You will have to buy a lot of this yourself, but it is good if you can get a feel for shin, head and body shields and pads. Most of us have donned boxing gloves, but not so many of the people have worked with muay thai pads etc. Obviously helps if you have a real cage or octagon to institution in from time to time as against the wire training is an absolute must if you want to compete. The usual range of heavy bags, treatment balls, and the kind of stuff they just wouldn't allow in your midpoint fitness centre such as sledgehammers, tractor tyres, grappling bags up to 100kg preferably. Weights are not such an issue as you can train them in any old gym, but helps with convenience and cost if everything is in one place.
Do some ringing around. Investigate online. Make some visits. Move to Brazil if you have to! But you'll find one.
